All About Earda: Background Index
If you write a fantasy set in a different world, you have to work out a whole lot of stuff that never makes it into the actual story. In printed books, authors often put a section at the end with some of their background notes, and I always enjoy reading these-- not only do they explain things that had to be left out of the main story, they make it more solid and real.
It doesn't really matter how long an ebook is, but as my background would fill a book all by itself, it couldn't go in. So if you're like me, and like to read all the extra stuff, here it is. For free. Enjoy!
- Glossary A–F G–N
O–Z
- Here you'll find explanations of the special words I use— some are old or regional terms I've adapted to suit my story, others I've made up.
- The explanations are cross-referenced, so clicking a linked word will take you to that word. You can explore the glossary this way, or use the ‘Back’ button to continue browsing where you were.
- Geography and Climate
- Some notes about the area where this takes place. Also a list of locations with their modern equivalents.
- Map
- I made a map that covers the entire area of Western Earda. Unfortunately, it takes an unbelievable amount of time to put this online. So far, I've scanned and edited about half, which covers mainly the area of Book 2. In the future, I intend to do the same with the southern half, then make enlargements of some sections, and produce printable maps. (Watch my blog for progress!) In the meantime, I hope what is here helps with following the narrative.
- Miscellaneous
- Bits and pieces that don't fit anywhere else!
